each place i paint is unique in history and environs. my response and connection to each is unique as well. breeze studio is located on monhegan island, off the coast of maine. i respond to its perpetual breezes, on an outside deck, painting with my hands and locally found objects. land studio is located at spring hills farm in dalton, pennsylvania. i paint this land with a connection to the memory of my grandfather’s apple farm in new hampshire. my painting substrates come from rubbings of virgin timber, a love of barn smells and walking barefoot throughout the fields. my flora studio is in my house in vero beach, florida. my back yard is filled with tropical flora, the sound of a fountain and birds. i am able to be intimate and up close to this flora, as i study these tropicals on the floor of my studio. here, my fingers reach to the canvas to respond to the delicate lines and color. i finish the piece on the wall with hand and various mark making tools.
